This may be a little off topic, BUT I'm getting ready to tear in to my wife's 59 Edsel & want to upgrade the tranny while I'm there. It's a 292 with the stock 2 speed right now & I'd like some opinions on the best tranny to put in with the least amount of trouble. It's going to be a driver that she takes to shows. Thanks in advance,

Butch: Is your Fordomatic the true 2 spd type or the more common 2 spd in Drive mode, c/w a seperate low gear?

If it's an automatic you want, the best options as far as I concerned is a C-4 or an AOD.

If you plan to make a lot of HP the C-4 can be made pretty tough. If its for cruising I vote AOD. I put one in my Vicky and love it. I can run a 4:10 rear gear on the street and still have econmomic highway driving. Chuck in NH

I put a C-4 in mine. I don't do that much freeway driving but lots of secondary roads. I love it and it was a simple install. Flat-O bell housing, new starter. Lokar kick down and a vacuum line to the intake, modified the stock rear mount cross member and thats it. I even used the original shift linkage (had to shorten it) and the column shift indicator line up fine.

Moonshadow, what AOD did you use & did you buy a kit or make your own adapter?

I used one from an early Mustang. 89 I think. Got the kit from Bendtsen's and fit was great. I did have the drive shaft remade with a different front yoke and longer. Chuck in NH http://www.transmissionadapters.com/Pricing.htm

I'm sure everybody is getting sick of this picture!!
