Riz. Based on your signature, you’re just down the road from Hebron, Ohio which is home to the Y-Block Shootout and the Ford Expo each Labor Day at National Trails Dragway. Are you planning on making that event this year?

The early Ford AOD's are not overpriced. I paid $100 for mine and put a kit in it myself. Worst problem was getting the pressure cable adjusted but once it was done everything has worked perfectly. With the GM trans or even the C-4 you don't get the advantage of overdrive. I'ts generally recommended to stay away from the later E-AOD as they are electronic and the hook ups are more than a little challenge. Chuck in NH

I put a C4 out of a 68 V8 mustang in my 56 Vicky. I left the choice of the shift kit to the fellow that overhauled it for me. I told him whatever he chose was fine with me as long as it didn't bark the tires every time it shifted. That tranny made a whole different car out of it.

Just an opinion, but I'd never go to the trouble you're talking about without getting an OD trans. It took me a while to get the AOD sorted out in my street rod, but now I would'nt trade. The .7 OD allows a 3.50, 3.70 or 3.89 gear for stoplight getty-up and great cruizing on the freeway.

I was looking at ditching the 3 sp and swapping over to an AT (It will make the wife happier to be able to drive it on a more regular basis--We all probably know how important that is . Going through Bendsten's there is an adapter for the TH350. I am not a purist, but want to keep the orig engine, but as far as trans, I know where I can get a boatload of TH350s and parts to choose from and parts $ and availability is more important than purist intentions. Has anyone used that rig or how are Bendsten's in general. and is it really pretty much plug and play? The motor is mildly tuned and will pretty much stay south of 300HP.

MoonShadow (3/4/2011)
I used one from an early Mustang. 89 I think. Got the kit from Bendtsen's and fit was great. I did have the drive shaft remade with a different front yoke and longer. Chuck in NH http://www.transmissionadapters.com/Pricing.htm This is the same adapter I have for my 292 E4OD combo. It fits great! Expensive though (isn't everything?) I'm sure everybody is getting sick of this picture!!

Moonshadow, what AOD did you use & did you buy a kit or make your own adapter?
