Yes the long overdue y powered T is close to having a running engine...

after the setback we bought another engine from a friend and got it running, enough of that lets tear it apart and start making changes Smile

The new engine is a 256 merc and we are hoping to use the cam from the 292 in it...I measured the bearing journals on both cams and they both come in around 1.192 (if I remember correctly, anyhow, they appeared to be the same size) BUT the 292 cam has the grooved journal whereas the 256 cam doesnt...can I use the grooved journal cam in the merc block with its original bearings? The engine had real good, steady oil pressure so I'd like to keep them if possible

I'm sure the grooved cam will work in the 256.  The only drawback I could see is possibly a little too much oil flow to the rockers, if that's possible.  The groove will supply a constant stream, the crossdrilled provided an interrupted flow.  Glad the Y is still in the plan.

If there is too much oil flow to rockers just add a restrictor plug to each assembly where the oil enters from the block.Thats what I will do with mine if the new assemblys still have too much oil when I install them.

I remember (I think) that the 256 used a diffrent distributor drive gear and oil pump drive shaft, would that make the drive gear on the cam diffrent. I guess if you use all the parts from the 292 it would be ok

had heard about the dist. drive issues on the HAMB - compared both cams when I had them out and the dist. drive gears looked the same to me, pretty sure I have both style dist. so I should be okay getting the right combo in there, thanks-

well, we dropped the 256 dist in and the gears meshed with the cam and everything turns overs real smooth so I think we are good in that respect...

everything is coming together pretty good, just buttoning up all the last minute details...

should be able to see it run when we get our carb base back from re-bushing, maybe this week??
