I have purchased an MSD-5553 universal sparkplug wire set for 272 F100 with a MSD-8383distributor. It comes with these wire lengths(measured from sparkplug boot center to end of wire insulation) 2pcs 793mm, 2pcs 1045mm,2pcs 1247mm, 2pcs1406mm and 1 coil wire. I use them thisway Cyl 1= 1406cut of 360mm Cyl 2=1406cut of 443mm Cyl 3=793cut of 0mm Cyl 4=793 cutof 0mm Cyl 5=1247 cutof 0mm Cyl 6=1247 cutof 40mm Cyl 7=1045 cutof 60mm Cyl 8=1045 cutof 64mm My measurements from sparkplug boot center to the front of side rubber grummet is 1+5= 445mm 2+6= 370mm 3+7= 225mm 4+8= 215mm To get the measurements in inch divided by 25,4mm J

The instructions came with a pre-made set of wires for my '56 Vic. So I didn't need to worry about the overall length of each wire. I don't know if the conduits (a plastic sleeve that is to go over certain portions of the wire are Thunderbird only or for all Y's). I also left the individual wire numbers on the wires for future reference. Jeff

I checked the diagram Charlie. If I would have been paying attention I would have realized all eight wires wires have two clamp measurements, which confirms all clamps are in deed four wire clamps. Thanks for pointing that out. When they talk about "conduit" on the wires between the clamps and from the last clamp to the spark plug, is this for the Tunderbird only or all original Y Blocks? The diagram shows no conduit from the distributer to the first clamp.

Klaus,
Hopefully Jeff will pick up on this and let me know if Im reading the diagram correctly. The instructions talk about two measurements. One measurement is to the first clamp comming from the distributer. The second measurement is to the second clamp. I see no measurements which would give the total length of the wires from the distributer cap to the spark plugs. It sounds like each wire has a label on it which is removed after installation (1-8). I am guessing the wires this diagram refer to are pre cut to the proper length. If I am reading it correctly, it just tells you where to make the measurements to install the wires in the block mounts. Hopefully if Jeff sees something else, he will help us out.
