Any of you '56 Ford folks that have time I need to know the location where outside mirrors bolt on to the doors. How far back from the front of the door & how far down from the window sill... Thanks....

E.J. I am not trying to change your mind about the door location for the mirrors, just thought I would share something with you. When I bought my 56 Customline Victoria, it had what I think was a dealer mounted side view mirror on the drivers side front fender. There were no holes at all in the doors, not even patched in holes. I thought that the mirror location on the forward end of the drivers front fender was nuts and I definitely was not going back to that. On the other hand, I had no template for a door mounted location and wasn't sure if sheet metal screws were good enough to hold securely over time. It took me 3 years to restore (resto-mod) the car and after it was all painted, I realized I never addressed the side view mirror issue, so I started driving the car without them. This became a problem for obvious reasons. One weekend I took the car up to the CVA Northwest Regional meet in Puyallup, WA. Some Canadians came down with their 56's (Meteor's and other Canadian Fords), and one of those cars used 3" peep mirrors mounted to the vent window (division bar). It was simple and it worked, so I copied his idea. That was 4 years ago and I'm still using them. Just sayin' Rono

Carl, How about posting a picture of the template here? I put my mirrors on by memory and obviously got them wrong. The drivers side is ok but I can't even see the passenger side. Also they seem to vibrate a lot. Chuck

The template shows the mirrors for the body mounted ones going on the doors. I just mounted them on my 56 crown and can help with the location if Carl can't find his template. I believe if their pulled back an inch or so from the original location away from the front edge they would be more useful especially the passenger side.

Rono, when I got mine it didn't have any outside mirrors on it. I had clamp on (peep) mirrors clamped to the door under the wrap around of the windshield. They work OK but it's getting painted now & I don't want them back on there. A lot of Fairlanes have mirrors on the doors. I have seen them up on the fenders but I don't want that either.

Rono, if you could can you post a picture of your peeps. I too had one mounted on my drivers door at the top and it chipped the paint. I have since mounted a stock (repro) on the drivers side door only. By the way, don't buy a repro from Carpenter's, their chrome of late SUX...
