Trying to get this engine installed and found this part under car...has to go somewhere

Sooooo happy I went to new type Flex Plate

 Last of four bolts tight

Bolted to Trans, motor mounts, duel exhaust, flex-plate...not long now just the starter, linkage, wires, fluids, and Mystery Part

Ron, the mystery part is indeed a part of the accelerator linkage. If you flip the part clockwise on its side about 90 degrees (as pictured), you will see that the two holes mount to your block just aft of the valley pan. The small tab with the small hole is there to hold the other end of a return spring.

Could be wrong, but I believe that is your mystery part...Wink

That was no trick...I had no idea where the part came from and was getting nervous thinking it could have fallen out of bell housing that is now buttoned up. Thanks for the help now I can get back out there....saved again by you guys.

I'm still stuck...see where it goes but not sure which two of the three holes it mounts to and in what direction and what spring and where does other end connect? I did come up with spring that is about 3" long but this mystery part is also missing the two mounting bolts...anyone see where I put them? Everything else is accounted for...well, pretty much. I looked on my "54 Ford but it is different and has spring going to tab on base of carburetor. Anyone have picture or diagram of this setup?

Ron, slide the bush part onto the accelerator rod on the firewall, it is the support of the end of the linkage, then the 2 holes on back of block near distributor base should be evident. The small hole is for spring.

Hi Ron

The part is shown on Page 337 of 49-59 Illustrated Parts Catalogue. It is Part No. 9830. It is described in the Text Catalogue as Hanger Assembly - Engine to Accelerator Shaft.

Your bracket is missing the plate which supports the shaft. The two rivets on the bracket pass through this plate which has a ferrule which the shaft turns in. This is part of the throttle linkage for 55-56 cars. The above image also shows where the spring should fit.

Your bracket appears to have suffered the fate that Bill mentioned earlier.

Daniel has the parts catalogues on disc or you can download it from forum member simplyconnected as a PDF file - it is quite big though.

If you already have the accelerator connected and working this part has probably been stuck in the engine compartment and become dislodged when you have removed everything.

It does not appear to be used on the throttle linkage that has the spring loaded kickdown mechanism from 57's.

Regards

Rick - West Australia
